Launchpad-Control is a small tool which allows you to easily hide/unhide apps (and groups) from Launchpad in Mac OS X Lion. FROM CNET Upgrade to Windows 10 for free right now. Just change the app name, prepending a dot. To unhide the app, just remove the dot. Note that Launchpad will take some time to see the changes. If it doesn't work, try to reboot. Tip: in Finder, you can toggle to see hidden files using keyboard shortcut CMD + SHIFT +. Using shell: cd /Applications sudo mv YourApp.app.YourApp.app. Typically LaunchPad shows all the apps on your Mac (at least, ones it can find in the Applications folder). If click and hold and get the 'wiggle' you will see an x in the upper left hand corner of apps that were installed via the Mac App Store. Clicking the x will remove the application from your computer. Launchpad is a highly useful feature in macOS. It has been developed to offer an iOS-like approach to managing apps with more convenience on Mac. At times, you may find some apps missing from the Launchpad interface. Generally, the newly installed third-party apps wouldn’t be showing up.

This simple utility, which operates as a System Preferences pane, displays a list of all applications as well as folders that you’ve created within Launchpad. Next to each program or folder is a checkbox – if the box is checked, the application appears in Launchpad. Uncheck the boxes next to the programs you want to exclude from Launchpad, click Apply, and the Dock relaunches as your changes are applied.
Please feel free to distribute and talk about this app on blogs, twitter or websites. I would really appreciate that.
Discontinued
Work on Launchpad-Control was discontinued in 2013, as Apple started putting obstacles in my way by changing their database reindexing. This tool does and will not work for 10.8+.

Lauchpad is a great feature of Mac OS X Lion which lets you access installed application from an iPad style launcher. Nonetheless, a huge disadvantage of the Launchpad is that every application that is located in the Applications folder is shown. Unfortunately, these apps can’t be hidden easily from Launchpad because there are no such native preferences present by default.
Launchpad- Control is a tweaking application for Launchpad, which provides a list of all installed applications to hide items which you don’t want to view. In the absence of such tweaking options in Mac Lion, this free tool can be quite handy for customizing the Mac OS X Launchpad.
Launchpad control doesn’t not require being installed as an application. It quite simply integrates into System Preferences window. From here, you can bring it up for enabling or disabling the Launchpad application list. Some of the main features of Launchpad-Control are as follows:
